Novel Antimicrobial Delivery System

The combined threat of increasing bacterial resistance towards currently used agents and the prevalance of difficult-to-kill biofilms in many healthcare, personal care and industrial situations necessitates the development of novel approaches to infection control.1

The unique nature of MOFgen’s products allows them to act as reservoirs for antimicrobial agents, slowly releasing their payloads over time. Superior antimicrobial efficacy is delivered in up to three ways:

  1. The sustained and controlled delivery of antimicrobial metal ions
  2. The sustained and controlled delivery of nitric oxide gas
  3. The sustained and controlled delivery of antibiotics and anticeptics

Products are supplied with mono, bi or tri-functionality depending on the application and requirements, offering a multi-pronged approach to infection control.

MOFgen’s technology is effective against a wide range of gram positive and negative bacteria strains as well as fungi and yeast (Table 1), and shows excellent performance against resistant strains (Figure 1) and biofilms (Figure 2) over prolonged time periods (Figure 3).

MOFgen’s products can be incorporated into medical devices such as catheters, into wound care products, personal care products, coatings and textiles.
